Healthy Schools

At Hamstel Infant School and Nursery we strive for our children to have healthy bodies, healthy teeth and healthy minds. Our children have opportunities to learn about having a healthy lifestyle and are provided with an environment that promotes best practice for their health and well-being.

In March 2024, we were accredited with Healthy Schools Status.

As a school we have improved:

  • our PSHE curriculum

  • mental health and emotional wellbeing

  • physical activity

  • food and nutrition

  • oral health

  • pupil voice

This is due to high statistics of poor oral health, obesity and mental health in our area of Southend-on-Sea. We ensure that every day the children at Hamstel Infant stay hydrated and are provided with a healthy meal so they have the energy to learn and make great progress.

We use the Zones of Regulation to ensure our children are able to express their feelings throughout the day.
We encourage them to talk about their feelings so we can help support and have a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

Healthy life

We provide our children with a fruit and vegetable snack as well as a carton of milk (free under 5.)

All meals are provided by our own catering team – Pabulum and under the Government scheme all year groups receive a free school meal.
